More than 600 years history of pilgrimage and more than 550 years history of the Benedictine monastery and its affiliated brewery commit the monks on the “sacred mountain” to passing-on their knowledge and tradition to future generations – the merging of a religious center with the needs of a tourist destination in the foothills of the Bavarian Alps, where the characteristic onion spire of the monasterial church heralds Andechs from afar.
One particular care of the Benedictines has always been the physical well-being of their guests; they did their best, therefore, to offer refreshments to all the travellers, pilgrims, and needy that came to their door. Beer was brewed in Andechs as early as in the Middle Ages, with the Benedictines taking up that tradition.
After an “appetizing“ hike across fields and meadows, Andechs Monastery offers not only peace and visual treats, but also a cool drink of particular quality.
The monastery's guesthouse as well as its tavern with its panorama terrace serve the famous Andechs beer, the light-colored “Spezialhell” and the dark “Andechser Doppelbock”.
