The Kunsthalle Jesuitenkirche houses the Municipal Art Museum and focuses on Classic Modern Art and renowned genres of the 20th and 21st century.
In 1612, at the same time as the castle was constructed, the Elector of Mainz, Johann Schweikard von Kronberg, founded a Jesuit establishment in Aschaffenburg.
The church near the castle, constructed and finished between 1619 and 1621, did not only serve as a place of worship for the Jesuits, but was also used as a „student’s church“ for the secondary school run by the fraternity.
