
Guests say that the diverse landscape and the open minded locals are the two most important reasons to spend their holiday here. The passage of the Chiemgau Alps (up to 2000m high) to Chiemsee and Waginger See, sea landscapes characterized by the glacial period, is appealing and idyllic.

13 nature reserves and 10 protected areas cover one fifth of the district of Traunstein and show the efforts of combining tourism with nature. The favorite activities of the guests include hiking, mountain climbing, cycling tours or mountainbiking and all kinds of watersports. (Motor boats are prohibited though.)
The climatic spas and wintersports areas Inzell, Ruhpolding and Reit im Winkl have extensive vacation opportunities. Achental, a hiker"s paradise, is full of well frenquented farmed alps. Waginger See is an inexpensive summer resort, from which it is also only one hour to reach Mozart City Salzburg. The cultural offer includes colorful costume festivals with musical accompaniment, traditional horse rides and the "Musiksommer zwischen Inn und Salzach", a very popular music festival ranging from Classic to Jazz. Several special museums, a very popular one fascinating particularly children is the "Natural History and Mammoth Museum" in Siegsdorf, have been built besides the museums of local history. 12 signposted cycling paths designed for both cyclists and hikers can be found in a list, and Chiemgau can be explored for days.
