The Ice Age glaciers once formed the nature of Ebersberg County. Today, the landscape is dominated by agriculture. In the North-West and in the West, old moraine grounds are covered with good soil made up of loess clay and weathered clay.
In these areas, farmers grow mostly wheat, corn, and rapeseed. The meager Munich gravel grounds are dominated by brewery barley, rapeseed, and potatoes. The latter are used for the most part to be processed into liquor, in one of the county"s fifteen potato distilleries.
The moraine country in the South and in the South-East is mostly used for grassland management. Ebersberg Forest and its picturesque surroundings provide the perfect environment for hiking, cycling, cross-country skiing, ice skating, and, on some hillsides, Alpine skiing. In the summer, there are the swimming lakes. And on many days throughout the year, the view extends all the way to the near-by Alps.
