The county of Fürth is located in the western part of the larger Nuremberg area, which includes the towns of Zirndorf, Stein and Oberasbach. In the west, the county is part of the more rural western part of Central Franconia.
The county of Fürth is Bavaria’s smallest county. The area is characterized by the stratified landscape: the sandstone keuper plateau (formed in the late Triassic) is intersected by the Bibert River, the Zenn River and several smaller rivers to form wide valleys. Due to the county’s richness in clay, it is a center of the tile industry, particularly the area of Langenzenn.
