The border town Furth im Wald is well-known for Germany's oldest popular theater play: the slaying of the dragon (Further Drachenstich). Centrally situated between Nuremberg, Munich and Prague, the small town offers many leisure opportunities.
The Slaying of the Dragon
For over 500 years the Dragon of Furth has rolled through Furth's streets. With its jaw open, teeth bared, breathing fire and roaring, it represents Evil. It is stabbed to death and yet arises once more every year. The people of Furth turned the story of the fight between Good and Evil into an historic festival, the Slaying of the Dragon, which is performed and celebrated each August.
