“Of the whole Lake District,“ wrote Karl Stieler a good 100 years ago, “this place might just be the perfect idyll.” He was referring to the village of Herrsching on Lake Ammersee; the latter was formerly known as “Bauernsee” – “farmers’ lake”.

Herrsching, gloriously located at the bay of Lake Ammersee, offers numerous leisure and recreation options.

Some of the most prominent ones, of course, are part of the water sports program: Sailing, rowing, surfing, and, of course, swimming.

The lake is accessible from everywhere around the bay; it also features one of Bavaria’s longest lake boardwalks. Cruises on Lake Ammersee (between April and November) are another, very popular and comfortable option.
