Massive, Gothic and visible from afar - the Cathedral:
From the Pfeifturm there is a wonderful view onto the late Gothic cathedral. Its enormous roof consists of seven storeys, one above the other. According to written records 3,800 tree trunks were used in its construction. Inside, the mighty church shelters altars, valuable reliefs and stone figures, sculptures and carvings. The tombs of professors and the High Altar completed by Hans Mielich in 1572, on the hundredth anniversary of the Hohe Schule, recall the close connection between the church and the university. Three images on the back of the magnificent altar depict the dispute between Saint Katherine of Alexandria and fifty heathen philosophers. On closer inspection, famous professors and patrons of the Hohe Schule, portrayed by Mielich, the court painter, can be seen.
