Google Maps Landsberg am Lech County
This county in the West of Upper Bavaria contains 31 municipalities, covering an area of a total 804 sq.km. Picturesque Lake Ammersee, the rural communities at the Southern county line within the Alpine foothills, and of course the beautiful, historically significant town of Landsberg am Lech as the center, largely dominate the picture of the region. Population has sharply increased over the last year: On 31st December 2005, 112,080 residents were counted in the official statistics.
The county of Landsberg on the Lech River is crossed by two large road axes which meet near the town of Landsberg. The federal road B17 connects the Augsburg area with the region around Füssen, and Austrian Tyrol. The freeway A96 connects the Allgäu with Munich; the Upper Bavarian part of that freeway is already completed.
The B17 is expected to be re-done into a four-lane road between the Northern county line and Landsberg. Other projects to optimize traffic and relive the residents are the westward by-pass of Landsberg, as well as the three-lane extension between Landsberg and Hohenfurch (in Weilheim-Schongau County).
