Miltenberg

Welcome to Miltenberg

Miltenberg lies idyllically at the south-western Main square, surrounded by the wooded hills of Spessart and Odenwald. First mentioned in 1237, the town can look back on an eventful history. Miltenberg experienced early economic heydays due to its location at the old trading road Nuremberg - Frankfurt.  This advantage turned to harm during the 30-years war and the town had lost about half its inhabitants by the middle of the 17th century.

During the following decades and centuries, Milltenberg did not play a major role in politics any longer. That is why the medieval town structure and townscape are still preserved today.  The town's former significance can still be seen in the magnificent half-timbered buildings, for example the building complex on the Old Market Square (Alter Marktplatz), called "Schnatterloch".

The town's museum, which received the Bavarian Museum Award in 1999, is certainly worth a visit.  The museum illustrates various topics of Miltenberg's history, shows special exhibitions and is the venue of talks and other events.

Miltenberg is a shopping town. Along the pedestian zone, the Old Town's alleys, near the Main: there are small shops everywhere. What they offer is rarely mass produced. The gastronomy is equally varied: from the small pub and inn to international cuisine, seasonal and regional treats.

There are signposted cycling and hiking trails everywhere: through Spessart and Odenwald as well as along the Main. Leisure opportunities: adventure pool, outdoor pool, bowling alley, tennis courts, horse riding, water sports, aviation and much more.
