The state-approved recreation area with its three “gems” Motten, Kothen and Speicherz is located in the Nature Park Rhön Mountains, the cultivated biosphere reserve of the UNESCO. Approx. 70 kilometres of sign-posted trails lead through untouched nature and to interesting destinations - for example:

• up to the Mottener Haube, where at a height of 658 metres a look-out tower makes up for the exhausting way up with breath-taking views of the mountains Wasserkuppe, Kreuzberg and Milseburg.
• or to the rough Pilster in Kothen, a huge primeval phonolite rock.
• or to the pilgrimage church on the Maria-Ehrenberg Mountain, which, amongst other things, is famous for its three larger-than-life stone Madonnas. -and much more…

To make the holiday offer perfect there is a large choice of inns, restaurants and cafes and a beautiful camp site. For families with kids a „farm holiday“ turns Motten into a holiday paradise. Sportive guests will find all they are looking for in the area of the „three gems“: hiking, cycle touring, horse riding, fishing, tennis, squash, soaring; in winter tobogganing, cross-country skiing and alpine skiing – the Kreuzberg and Arnsberg Mountains offer plenty of things to do and a plethora of helpful suggestions. Nearly every weekend the numerous local clubs provide a varied programme.
