Whether tennis, surfing, golfing on the 18-hole golf course Schwanhof, one of the most beautiful golf courses in the world, or viewing the picturesque landscape from a hot air balloon – the possibilities are unlimited! Indoor and outdoor swimming pools are great for families with kids; on the local lakes you can go paddling and boating. With crazy golf, game reserves, or – in case of bad weather – well-stocked libraries you won’t get bored.

The area is a popular hiking and biking destination and features numerous signposted long distance or circular hiking trails which are looked after by the Upper Palatinate Waldverein (Forest Club). The cycling routes range from tours around the county, which are outlined in the county’s cycling routes map, to tours beyond the county’s borders or themed tours. In addition, there are cycling events like the Panoramatour, the Landkreisrundfahrt (tour around the county) or the Pirker Zoigltour.

In the Upper Palatinate Forest you’ll find the Bockl cycle trail, a tour which leads you along the former railway line between Neustadt on River Waldnaab and Eslarn and is ideal for families and senior citizens. The 24km-long stretch between Vohenstrauß and Eslarn is one of the most popular cycling trails of the region.

The Bockl trail is an ideal, flat cycle trail for all cyclists, as well as in-line skaters, ski-skaters and wheelchair users. With a length of approximately 50 km, it is Germany’s longest cycling trail leading along a former railway line.

In the area of the nature park there are also interesting tours for trail riders, for example tours across the border to Bohemia which are available as package deals.

In winter there are numerous things to do for active sportsmen and families with kids; there are many skiing, snowboarding and sledding slopes or cross-country skiing tracks, as well as beautiful winter hiking trails.

In the Upper Palatinate Forest you’ll find Bavaria’s largest high ropes course. Located near Tännesberg, individual visitors or groups can improve their self-confidence and self-conquest.

In the evenings you can visit one of the cosy beer gardens, for a folkloric evening or for a cold glass of Zoigl, the special beer brewed in Windischeschenbach, Neuhaus and Eslarn.
