Oberreute, the “sun terrace“ of the West Allgäu (860 to 1,041 metres above sea level), is conveniently located along the German Alpine Road between Lake Constance and the Alps and offers perfect conditions for hiking and excursions for the whole family.

Embedded in the hilly landscape of green mountain pastures, the state-approved climatic spa of Oberreute is located in a beautiful mountainous area on the Hochstraess mountain ridge, right on the Austrian border.

The atmospheric landscape varies between pastures, high moors, ravines and forests. Oberreute is especially charming during May/June when the flowers are in bloom, during the fog-free, clear autumn days and on sunny winter days.

Visitors can discover this beautiful area on an approx. 40-km-long network of hiking trails. No matter if you prefer unhurried walks, Nordic walking or extended tours – in this area hiking fans are rewarded for their efforts by a fantastic view of the Allgäu Mountains, the Bregenz Forest and Eastern Switzerland.

However, Oberreute is not only famous for its great hiking conditions – there are numerous other leisure activities, which make for an exciting holiday, for example a heated outdoor swimming pool, tennis courts, skittles, horse riding or guided visits to the cheese dairy. Or how about cycling tours along the West Allgäu “Käsestraße” (cheese road), horse carriage rides in summer or sledging in winter? There is also a cable lift for skiers as well as some 25-km-long cross country skiing tracks. Make sure you don’t miss out on a visit to the skiing museum and the “Heimatstube“ (local history parlour), as well as the local library. In summer there is a special holiday programme for kids. Concerts and folkloric evenings guarantee great entertainment.

For health conscious visitors several hotels offer the “Mayr-Kur“, a purification treatment named after Dr. F. X. Mayr.
