Relax at the heart of the Hochspessart; Rothenbuch, the insiders’ tip for peaceful relaxation within beautiful nature. Rothenbuch, one of the oldest Spessart villages (since 1318), is located at an altitude of 360 to 420 metres along the Deutsche Ferienstraße.
Walking and hiking paths lead across lush green meadows into diversified forest areas. The pleasant tranquillity and the beauty that can be discovered in great detail will turn your holiday into a relaxing experience. Here you can find yourself and reload your batteries.
The village centre is strongly influenced by the medieval buildings with the former hunting seat of the Elector of Mainz (1567) in its centre.
It is also the place where the river Hafenlohr has its spring. The meanders of the stream wind their way through the much vaunted Hafenlohr Valley, whose magical idyll was praised by Tucholsky: "Dies ist eine alte Landschaft, die gibt es gar nicht mehr, hier ist die Zeit stehen geblieben. Wenn Landschaft Musik macht: dies ist ein deutsches Streichquartett." Looking at the untouched nature of the valley, you can still fathom Tucholsky’s enthusiasm. Rothenbuch offers its guests neat rooms in private houses, holiday homes, inns and hotels with tasty and special cuisine. The village is conveniently located near the most important urban agglomerations in Germany; it’s only 7 kilometres to the autobahn Würzburg - Frankfurt (A3, exits Rohrbrunn and Weibersbrunn).
