Wallerstein with its districts Birkhausen, Ehringen and Munzingen is embedded in the beautiful and unique area of the Ries and thus is a perfect starting point for hiking tours or long walks. With its castles, manors, churches and chapels, the city of Wallerstein looks like a typical rural residence.

The princedom Oettingen-Wallerstein experienced its cultural bloom in the 18th century, but lost its self-governance in 1806 when it was incorporated into the Kingdom of Bavaria.
