König-Ludwig-Weg (King Ludwig Trail)

HohenschwangauOn a total length of 127 km the first long-distance hiking trail along the foothills of the Alps follows the steps of a man who was known as „the dreamer“ – the Fairy Tale King Ludwig II.

The combination of this landscape's beauty, which Ludwig II. loved so much, and the cultural offerings of the area is what makes this region so special. There is so much to see and do, to discover and enjoy along the trail. It is nestled into the most attractive landscape with romantic lakes and it offers unique panoramic views from the Hohen Peißenberg Mountain, the highest point of the trail, at 988 meters above sea level.

It leads from Starnberg via the world-famous monastery of Andechs to the St. Mary’s Cathedral in Dießen. From there it goes on to the monastery in Wessobrunn, past Hohenpeißenberg Mountain and through the Ammer gorge to Rottenbuch.

The Wieskirche church, the Welfenmünster Cathedral in Steingaden and the castles of Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau make for an impressive and culturally diversified „pilgrimage“.
