If you haven’t seen Freising, you haven’t seen Old Bavaria! Only 25 car minutes north-east of Munich, Freising is Upper Bavaria’s oldest city, with a tradition of almost 1,300 years. The Romanesque Cathedral on Domberg (cathedral hill) and many other architectural sites attract visitors; for museum lovers, we recommend the Diocesan Museum, the largest collection of clerical art in Germany.
The picturesque squares, alleys, and hidden corners invite you to leisurely stroll through and take a look. Traditional style is as common as students' flair. Don’t miss taking a walk over the Weihenstephan Mountain with its “green” university facility, its interesting show gardens, and the world’s oldest brewery. The latter comes with an adjacent pub – Old Bavarian hospitality means a lot in Freising.
Freising is a great location for day-trips to various destinations: To the nearby regional capital of Munich for example, or north into Lower Bavaria with its natural and cultural sights. The whole wide world is not far away either, Munich airport is in close vicinity of Freising and every country on the globe comes within reach.
