Theatinerkirche (St. Kajetan)


Basilica in Italianate High Baroque which had a major influence on Southern German baroque architecture.

Important members of the house of Wittelsbach are buried here, amongst them the  Bavarian kings Max Josef I., Max II., Prince Regent Rupprecht of Bavaria as well as the basilica's founders Prince Elector Ferdinand Maria and his wife Henriette Adelaide of Savoyen.

The Swiss master Zuccali and provost Spinelli were in charge of the basilica's construction which was finished in the year 1688. The rococo facades were created by Francois Cuvilliés in 1768.
