Welcome to Landsberg on River Lech

The town of Landsberg on Lech was founded more than 700 years ago by Henry the Lion.

The historic center is built around the large market square between the River Lech and “Lechsteilufer” (steep Lech River bank). The square is dominated by the “Schmalzturm” (“Lard Tower"), and surrounded by self-confident townhouses and the stucco town hall developed by Dominikus Zimmermann.

The winding alleys and numerous squares around the town are particularly romantic spots to rest.

Discover and explore “Romanticism by the Lech River”: Landsberg am Lech is (and has always been) a magnet for travellers from near and far. The impressive Lechwehr dam, the unique scenery of the historic center with the magnificent town hall, the many gates and towers, all make Landsberg one of Bavaria’s most wonderful towns.

The Gothic Bavarian Gate, the town’s landmark, is considered one of the most beautiful gates in Bavaria.

The New Town Museum features exhibits from the town’s own history as well as constantly changing art exhibitions. Numerous pubs and restaurants offer a broad culinary variety and Bavarian as well as Swabian specialties.

Small but keen specialty stores offer a many different, high-class products: From self-produced chocolate to exquisite tobacco products.

But Landsberg on Lech not only scores with its historically and architecturally significant buildings, but also with its nature and landscape. Only a five minute-walk away from the main square lies the Lech Park “Poessinger Au”: A place for local recreation, right by the river amidst opulent flora and fauna.
