Welcome to Schwandorf County

The county of Schwandorf, which was formed during the local government reform in 1972, takes a special position amongst Bavaria’s counties. With approximately 130 industrial plants and more than 15,000 employees this region in the center of Upper Palatinate takes a top position in the economic ranking of Bavaria.

This fact is due to industry-friendly politics as well as the geographical location of the county. Schwandorf is a hub for railway and transportation, connecting East and West. Every point in the county is well-connected to the Munich-Berlin autobahn, which can be reached in as little as 15 minutes maximum. To the Nuremberg airport it is also only a 80 kilometer's drive.

Since the fall of the Iron Curtain the county has moved from a position at the fringes of Europe right into its center. Cooperations with communities from the neighboring area of Bohemia already exist.
